Mary Pauline Payne

Mary Pauline Payne of Monette peacefully passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018, at the Monette Manor at the age of 101. She was born Aug. 17, 1916, in Sitka, the daughter of the late Jody and Della Hall Higginbottom. She was a longtime employee of the Caraway Bank and a member of the Caraway Church of Christ. She enjoyed cooking, reading and visiting. She enjoyed going to the Caraway Senior Citizens and playing cards and going on hayrides. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Payne; one daughter, Bonnie Fletcher; one brother, Jay Higginbottom; and two sisters, Ruth Sanders and Neva Sanders.

She is survived by one son, Bob Payne (Norma) of Southaven, Miss.; one brother, Marvin Higginbottom (Judy) of Holiday Island; five grandchildren, Dr. Terry Fletcher (Elaine) of Roland, Susan Thornton (Ricky) of Cabot, Amanda Gibson (Aaron) of Cooper Canyon, Texas, Traci Greer (Eric) of Kingston, Mass., and Jana Hayes (Lyle) of Olive Branch, Miss.; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two nieces; and numerous friends.

Funeral services are set for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at the Gregg Funeral Home in Monette. Friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday, 1:30 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Caraway Cemetery.
