Tommy Ray Mason, 68, of Jonesboro, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018 at his home.

Tommy was born in Blytheville to J.A. and Lois Mason. He was an avid car enthusiast which was his lifelong passion and career. His father opened Mason’s Garage in Gosnell in 1955 when Tommy was six years old. He began working on cars after school from that time until he passed. In 1977, he bought out his father and changed the name to Mason’s Used Cars. He and his father worked together until his father passed in 2005. He went from mechanic to body man to car salesman. There wasn’t much he could not do with an automobile.

His only passion greater than cars was God and his family. Tommy and his wife Sherri are members of Fairview Baptist Church in Jonesboro. Over the years, he served the Lord as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, song leader and deacon. He loved to sing Southern Gospel music.

Tommy often jokes that Hollywood’s character, The Fonz, was modeled after his life and they owed him some royalties. Although we miss him, we take rest he is with our Lord Jesus.

He was preceded in death by his father, J.A. Mason; a wife, Patsy Grimes Mason, and her parents; and a father-in-law, Chester Thompson.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Sherri Thompson Mason of the home; two sons, David Williams (Angela) of Newport and Tommy Mason (Leslie) of Blytheville; mother, Lois Mason of Gosnell; two step sons, Jason Garey of Vietnam and Thomas Garey (Ashley) of Blytheville; four sisters, Mary Ferguson (Jim) of Woodleaf, North Carolina, Barbara Evans (Rick) of Guilford, Connecticut, Ilene May (Stan) of Hornersville, Missouri, and Inez Pennington (Hershel) of Blytheville; two grandchildren, Tyler Williams (Bobbie) of Jonesboro and Kayla Williams of Little Rock; mother-in-law, Barbara Thompson of Las Vegas, Nevada; two brother-in-law’s, Jeff Thompson and Tom Thompson, both of Las Vegas, Nevada; and a host of family and friends, as well as his best friend, Jerry McNeely and his wife Carolyn of Jonesboro.
