Ruby Chesney Camp

Friday, May 4, 2018

Ruby Chesney Camp went to her heavenly home on Thursday, May 3, 2018. Ruby was born to the late Luther B. and Cora Coleman Chesney on June 27, 1935 in Dardanelle, Arkansas. She was the baby of ten children.

She married Coy W. Camp on May 8, 1952 at Sherrill, Arkansas. To them were born four children. Ruby was first a great godly lady, a wife, mother and grandmother. She walked through life beside her life partner as he served 20 years as a member of the United States Air Force, then for over 45 years as he served as pastor, interim pastor and evangelist. She was affectionately known as “Miss Ruby” by the members of the churches where her husband pastored. Ruby was a very active member of Fairview Baptist Church. During her later years even while enduring ill health, she always attended church with that great smile on her face where she was surrounded by the very people she loved so much. During those years as a military wife there were years when she had to rear the children by herself. She was privileged to travel to many states and several foreign countries during that time.

After retirement, her joy was to get in the RV and head to a lake, travel the country side, or make a trip to some place she had not been before. She was a good traveling companion.

One of the greatest joys of her life was watching her grandson, Will, play baseball. She traveled many miles just to watch him play. From T-ball, through travel teams and high school, very seldom missing a game unless health would not allow.

Ruby is survived by her husband of 65 plus years; two daughters, Sharon Johnson and Brenda Watson; two sons, Michael Camp (Vivian) and Jeffery Camp (Jackie); one sister, Faye White of Conway; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 7th at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Silvey officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until service time at Fairview Baptist Church. The family requests that any memorials be made to Fairview Baptist Church Sanctuary Renovation Fund.
