Katie Mae Taylor Childress

Katie Mae Taylor Childress, 90, of Ft. Myers, Fla., died Friday, March 23, 2018. She was born Sept. 10, 1927, in Macey to Verta and Dewey Taylor. She was the sixth child of eight siblings. They were Searcy Taylor, Louise Masner, Gene Taylor, Raymond “Hawk” Taylor, Melba Fowler, Bobby Taylor and Jimmy Taylor, all whom preceded her in death.

She was married to Billy Henry “Skez” Childress, they were blessed to celebrate 40 years together before his death. She was a longtime member of Childress Baptist Church and in later years, Monette First Baptist. She enjoyed working with youth and children in the church for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

She is survived by her only child, Bob, and his wife, Carolyne, of Cape Coral, Fla.; two grandchildren, Bill (Megaen) of Spokane, Wash., and Sumer (Chris) Dickinson of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; three great-granddaughters, Catherine Elaine “Caty”, Charlotte Mae and Claire Emerson Childress of Spokane; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at Monette First Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Brown officiating. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to donor’s choice.
