Melvin L. Browning

Melvin L. Browning, 73, of Clinton, made his heavenly flight on March 8, 2018. He was born June 15, 1944, in Manila to the late Grace Browning. He was a proud Army veteran and was a retired letter carrier for over 25 years. Melvin was a former mayor of Manila; substitute teacher at Clinton Public Schools for 12 years and was presented with the Arkansas Nursing Home Volunteer of the Year Award. His greatest joy in life was his grand and great-grandchildren. Melvin was involved and volunteered in countless organizations. He loved reading and gardening. Melvin will be most remembered for his sense of humor and crazy stories. As he lived this life his hope was that he had a been help to someone and made their life better. Now, he goes to be an eternal servant to His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Browning, and a brother, Cecil Browning.

Melvin is survived by his daughter, Beth Hollingshead (Brad), and stepchildren, Luis Morales (Robin) and Melinda Morales; two grandchildren, Shelby Beatty (Shane) and Jenny Morales; two great-grandchildren, Audrey and Benjamin Beatty; two siblings, Joyce Gordan (Joe) and Nellie Fleeman (Paul); a host of family and friends.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Van Buren County Library, Clinton, Ark., in his memory.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at Old Austin Baptist Church, 50 Old Hwy. 38 N., Austin, Ark. His life celebration will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 12, at Old Austin Baptist Church, Austin. Burial will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Arkansas Veterans Cemetery.
