James Russell "Rusty" Thompson

Monette -- James Russell “Rusty” Thompson, 61, departed from this life Dec. 29, 2017 at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro. Rusty was born Oct. 25, 1956, to Betty Chipman Thompson and James Estel Thompson in Monette.

He worked in banking for the majority of his life. Before he began his career in banking, he was a farmer. He was an avid shepherd to about 30 head of sheep. Rusty was also an agricultural outdoorsman, a Cardinals fan, loved watching the “American Pickers”, and spending time with family. He was also an active member of the Monette Volunteer Fire Department. He dearly loved The Lord, his family, and his dog Frosty. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by two daughters, Micah Thompson (Tyler Rolland) and Julie Thompson of the home; two grandsons, Liam Rolland and Finn Rolland; a dog, Frosty Thompson; a sister, Deb McDonald (Dean) of Heber Springs; a brother, Keith Thompson (Rhonda) of Black Oak; a nephew, Wade Gathright of Monette; and a great-niece, Kylie Gathright.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jane Chipman Thompson, and his father, James Estel Thompson.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the First Baptist Church of Monette with Rev. Rusty Bird and Rev. Jerry Reed officiating. Interment followed in Monette Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

A visitation was held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church.

Pallbearers included Dennis Cobb, Wyeth Spikes, Wade Spikes, Kristian Nuckles, Rusty Craig and Heath Sanders.

Honorary pallbearers include the Monette Volunteer Fire Department, Harry Adams, Gary Rowton, Jack Gathright, Bill Craig, Ronnie Qualls, Dennis Holden, James Pierce, Steve May, Ronnie Bruce, Vince Corter, Don Carter, Jon Immink, Vince McGolden, Harvey Faulkner, Harvey Edward Faulkner, Drake Cobb, Tyler Cornish, John Gathright, Rudy Snider, Kenneth Worthey, Sam Thompson, Wade Gathright and Kylie Gathright.
