Monette -- Bobby Gene Gathright, 87, passed away Dec. 25, 2017 at NEA Baptist Hospital. He was born April 9, 1930, to Clyde Gathright and Rella Lamb Gathright in Monette. He was a 1949 graduate of Childress High School.

Mr. Gathright farmed most of his life. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 62 years and served 20 years as the secretary. He was a member of the Quorum Court and trustee of Macey Cemetery. He enjoyed fishing, playing with his grandchildren and teaching them to drive. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals and Roundup music show. He also helped build the baseball field at the school in Monette. He will be remembered as a devoted member of the Monette United Methodist Church, as well as a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Gathright of the home; a daughter, Karen Hooks (Floyd) of Anacoco, La.; three sons, Alan Gathright and Dennis Gathright (Jennifer), both of Monette, and Larry Gathright (Kristi) of Sneads Ferry, N.C.; two brothers, Jack Gathright (June) and John Gathright (Liz), all of Monette; 11 grandchildren, Stephanie Lopez (John) of Anacoco, La., Bobby Hooks (Charlotte) of Leeville, La., Shaye Strouse (Shane) of Picayune, Miss., Star Ridge (Nathan) of Marrero, La., Amanda Gathright of Olive Branch, Miss., Justin Gathright (Leah) of Monette, Megan Blankenship (Justin) of Batesville, Rachel Goldammer and Kaitlyn Lincoln (Manley), all of Jonesboro, Justine Paterson (Dan) of Lynchburg, Vir., and Joshua Gathright of Goose Creek, S.C.; 23 great-grandchildren, Chyna, Christian, Cheyanne, Cammy, Cally, Kayleigh, Kimberly, Kacie, Katelyn, Wyatt, Carter, Noah, Savanna, Jace, Makayla, Madalyn, Presley, Chandler, Gracie, Graham, Mikayla Rose, Nora and Paul; one great-great-grandchild, Aiden, and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Rella Gathright; in-laws, Shorty and Lillian Woodsmall; two brothers, Billy Gathright and Tommy Gathright; a sister, Patsy Gathright Craig.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at Gregg Funeral Home in Monette with Rev. Jerry Reed and Rev. Rusty Bird officiating. Interment will follow at Macey Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are his grandsons and nephews. Monette Masonic Lodge brothers served as honorary pallbearers.
