Francys Faulkner, 98, of Uriah, Ala., former longtime Manila resident and widow of Hulen E. Faulkner, passed from this life Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at her home. Born in Myrtle, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Clois Byrd Norris and had been raised in Blossom, Texas. A 1936 graduate of Blossom High School she received her bachelor's degree from North Texas State University with a major in English literature and a minor in French. She later earned a master's degree from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. She retired from the Manila School District after 37 years as a teacher and librarian. She was dedicated to her students' development in education having sponsored two French classes to France. A former longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Manila, she had served as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, and had served on various committees. She was presently a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Uriah.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Norris, and one sister, Mary Esther Crowder.

She is survived by two sons, Norris George Faulkner and wife Linda of Uriah, Ala., and William (Bill) Edward Faulkner and wife Janet of Dallas, Ga. She also leaves five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, in the Manila Cemetery with Paul Wayne Hicks officiating. The family will receive visitors Saturday morning from 10 until service time at Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila.
