Charles E. Frankum, MD

Charles E. Frankum, MD, of Memphis, Tennessee, husband of Linda Lacey Frankum, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 at McCall Hospice House of Greenville, South Carolina.

Born in Blytheville, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Frankum. Charles Frankum was a graduate of Blytheville High School and served his country in the U.S. Army. He was also a graduate of Arkansas State University, where he was elected president of the student body. Charles earned his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Arkansas Medical School and interned at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. There he served his surgical residency and practiced surgery at Baptist Memorial Hospital until his retirement. He was a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and a fellow in the American College of Surgeons. Charles was honored by Arkansas State University in 1991 as a distinguished alumni – “surgeon’s surgeon”.

He enjoyed the University Club of Memphis, Memphis Country Club, Memphis Surgical Society and ROSES (Retired Old Surgeons Eating Society). Charles was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter, Dr. Lacey Frankum Kaiser, and her husband, Dr. Gregg Kaiser; his son, Dr. Charles Frankum, Jr. and his wife, Kristy Becher Frankum; and sister, Carol Frankum Ross and husband, Bill, of Blytheville. He was extremely proud of his seven grandchildren, Katherine, Margaret, Carter, Matthew, Davis, Charlie and Elizabeth.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. J.M. Frankum and wife, Amelia Williams Frankum, of Newport and Heber Springs.

The Frankum family is grateful for the care that Charles received at Page Robbins Daycare Center.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, located on Poplar Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Calvary Episcopal Church.
