Melba Lee Chipman Sherrod

Melba Lee Chipman Sherrod, 81, lifelong Manila resident, passed from this life Saturday, May 20, 2017, at her home. She was the daughter of the late John and Ethel Meadows Chipman and was a 1953 graduate of Manila High School. Melba was a retired bus driver and custodian for Manila Public Schools and was a longtime member of New Harmony Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Chipman, C.J. "Hoot" Chipman, Jerry Chipman, her twin brother, J.V. Chipman; sisters, Geraldine Stull, Polly Johnson; two infant siblings, and her son, Mikie Joe Chipman.

She is survived by one son, Marty Sherrod (Rachel) of Leachville; one daughter, Jamie Carter (John) of Manila; daughter-in-law, Teresa Chipman of Paragould; one sister, Carlean Evans of Manila. She also leaves nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a dear friend of over 70 years, Corine Hamilton.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Rev. Graig Stull officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Mikie Joe Chipman, II, Brian Chipman, Shaunlee Sherrod, Hunter Chipman, Jonathan Carter and John Carter.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday from noon until service.
