Tuesday, March 28, 2017

Mr. John "Jack" Minckler was born in Centerville, Iowa on June 11, 1948, to Roger and Lucille Gormley Minckler. In 1956, the family moved to Philipsburg, Montana. Jack always thought growing up in Montana was the greatest thing for a young boy seeking a sense of adventure in the outdoors. His desire to explore and learn continued to grow along with him as he developed a passion for reading, sports and history while he was in school. He graduated Granite County High School in 1966, but that never stopped his unquenchable desire for knowledge.

Throughout his life he consumed history. Jack took a keen interest in the U.S. Civil War and could recall most any fact about any general or battle. He was always quick to tell a story to anyone who would listen! He loved to tell stories about family, friends, sports, the Civil War and the history of Montana. His desire to learn ultimately resulted in one of his proudest accomplishments: going back to Montana State-Billings to earn his Bachelor's degree at age 52.

In 1975, he married his perfect soulmate Linda Jesse from Broadus, Montana. They lived in Shelby, Montana until her death from cancer in 1987. To this union, God gave two children, Joshua in 1978 and Sarah in 1981. His fondest memories are of watching his kids grow up. He was also very proud of his two years coaching football at Shelby high school where the team went 12-0 as the 1988 State "B" Champions.

In 1989, the family moved to the Laurel. In 2008, he moved to Billings where he resided until 2016. He and his business partner, Frank Degele, were proud owners of a small company called "Bugs-B-Gone" for over 20 years in Montana.

During the good times and hard times, Jack always knew that God was there watching over him. He is preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; sister-in-law, Cindy Graff; and the love of his life, Linda. He is survived by his children, Joshua (Aubrey) Minckler and Sarah (Jarred) Prier; sister, Jill Mazar; sisters-in-law, DJ (Tom) Smith and Lora (Steve) Jenks; and brother-in-law and dear friend, Richard Jesse. He is also survived by several friends and extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Robin Moore officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Private interment will take place on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Mountainview Cemetery in Shelby, Montana.
