Jolly Leggett

Mr. Jolly Leggett, 89, of Blytheville, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017 at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro.

He was born to Ernest and Marjorie (Maynard) Leggett in Ripley, Tennessee and was raised by his aunt and uncle, John and Lena Gaines. Jolly was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he was the superintendent of postal operations and he also farmed in his younger years. He was a member of Gosnell Baptist Church. Jolly was also a former longtime deacon and minister of music at Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was a mason, former member the Gosnell School Board, the Mississippi County Union Mission Board, the Gosnell Water Board and the Blytheville Kiwanis Club (as well as a former president). In his free time, Jolly loved to garden, read, and sing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his aunt and uncle; three brothers, Elgin, Sheldon, and Melvin and a sister, Jinc.

Jolly leaves his wife of 69 years, Mary Lynn (Duncan) Leggett of the home; four children, Claudia Briley (Max) of Gosnell, Ted Leggett (DeeAnn) of Huntsville, Alabama, Susie Anderson (Craig) of Leawood, Kansas, and Russell Leggett (Carla) of Gosnell; two brothers, Dan Leggett of Alton, Illinois and Durwood Leggett of Ripley, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Gosnell Baptist Church with Dr. Eddie Clemons and Dr. Max Briley officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Gosnell Baptist Church or The Backpack Program at Gosnell High School.
