Violet Cook

Violet Athlee Cook, 78, of Manila, widow of Leroy Mitchell Cook, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at the Great River Medical Center in Blytheville. Born Dec. 16, 1937, in Caraway, she was the daughter of the late James Wesley and Martha Athlee Gill Harris and was a former resident of Jonesboro and Poplar Bluff, Mo. She was a retired certified nurses aide and had been a Manila resident for the past 24 years. She loved fishing, camping, collecting unicorns, and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Cook.

Survivors include four sons, Ray Burrow and Gene Burrow, both of Manila, James Cook of Quitman, Texas, and Lloyd Cook of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; three daughters, Doris Jones and Laura McDowell, both of Manila, and Opal Burgin of Como, Texas; 18 grandchildren and many great and great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at the Mole Hill Cemetery in Broseley, Mo., with Rev. Mark Wheeler officiating. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
