Donald "Wayne" Pierce

Donald "Wayne" Pierce, age 78, of Leachville, former longtime Manila resident, passed from this life Tuesday February 23, 2016 at the NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

Born in the Blackwater community near Manila, he was the son of the late Dorsey and Cordie Johnson Pierce and attended the Blackwater School. Wayne was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War and was a retired truck driver having been employed by Willis Shaw Trucking in Springfield, Mo. and Bibbs Trucking in Hornersville, Mo. He enjoyed playing dominos and was a member of the Herman Davis American Legion Post #197 in Manila and was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Temple Pierce, four brothers and one sister.

Survivors include:

Six sons, Kenneth Easterwood of Marshfield, Mo, James Murphy of Little Rock, Dale Murphy and his wife Sharon of Manila, Kevin Murphy and his wife Robin of Springfield, Mo.,

Charles Murphy and his wife Karen of Tabernacle, NJ, and Brian Murphy of Manila;

One daughter, Roxann Gilpin of Trumann;

One sister, Juanita Foster of Illinois.

He also leaves 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Reverend James Chipman officiating. Burial will follow in the Manila Cemetery.
