Dr. Howard Leslie Nelson

Dr. Howard Leslie Nelson, 88, of Jonesboro, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, in Jonesboro. Born in Leachville on Sept. 18, 1926, he was the son of the late Gabe and Eunice Nelson. Dr. Nelson was the dentist in Manila for 40 years and a lifelong resident of Northeast Arkansas. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was very supportive of veterans' causes. He will always be remembered for his sharp wit, his charitable nature, and his devotion to family. He was a member of the Greensboro Road Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lynn and Jack; a sister, Mary Linda; and his first wife, Mary Trevathan Nelson.

He is survived by his wife, Inelda Tipton Nelson of Jonesboro; stepdaughter, Lisa Houston of Texas; niece, Jackie Nelson of Florida; cousin, Glen E. Smith of Texas; a host of extended family, as well as his beloved dog Punkin.

The body will be cremated.

A memorial service will be held at the Greensboro Road Church of Christ at 2008 Old Greensboro Road in Jonesboro at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Howard's memory to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or Abilities Unlimited in Jonesboro.
