Clarence A. Holt

Clarence A. Holt, 89, of Walnut Ridge, former Manila area resident, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born Jan. 5, 1926, in Swifton to the late Clifford and Pearl Barnes Holt and moved to Manila with his family as a young boy. A 1944 graduate of Manila High School, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and had lived in Doniphan, Mo., before settling in Walnut Ridge 21 years ago. As a young man he had worked as an auto painter for General Motors and as a lineman for the former Ark-Mo Power Company. Clarence was a lifetime member of the VFW in Doniphan, Mo., and the Herman Davis American Legion Post 197 in Manila. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Janie Holt, a brother, Fred Holt, and a sister, Imarene Gardner.

Survivors include his companion of 21 years, Carylon Jones of Walnut Ridge; five sons, Phillip Holt and wife Kay of Etowah, Kerry Holt and wife Suka of Waynesville, Mo., Lyle Holt and his companion Judy Traywick of Paragould, Chris Holt and his companion Jana Little of Manila, Kent Holt and wife Brenda of Leachville; one daughter, Kemberly Carey of Manila; one stepson, Bobby Fletcher of Chesterfield, Mo.; one brother, Billy Holt of Doniphan. He also leaves nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Rev. William Piercy officiating. Burial with military honors followed in Manila Cemetery.

The family received visitors from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
