Edwin "Skip" Evans, 71, of Manila, died Tuesday evening, May 19, 2015, at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell, Mo. Born Nov. 2, 1943, in Manila he was the son of the late Keith and Katherine Williams Evans and was a 1962 graduate of Manila High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War where he served in the 125th Signal Battalion, 25th Infantry. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant and earned several awards including Meritorious Unit Citation with one bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Expert Badge with Rifle Bar and a Marksman Badge with Carbine Bar. The discipline and patriotism he learned while serving never left him. He retired from trucking in 1987.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Shawn Evans; one brother, Edward J. Evans; and one niece, Jackie Evans Moore.

Survivors include his wife Carroll Evans of Manila; six sons, Shane Evans and Eric Evans, both of Manila, Charlie Evans and Skip Evans, both of North Carolina, Bobby Reeves of Radcliff, Ky., and Steven Guy of Caruthersville, Mo.; two daughters, Charlotte Evans McCory of Texas and Kelly Evans Holden of Leachville; a sister, Lois Evans, and sister-in-law Carlean Evans, both of Manila. He also leaves several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral service were 11 a.m. Thursday at the Manila Cemetery with Rev. Rudy Burrow officiating. Burial was under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Manila.
