Howard Reeves, 93 of Monette, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 13, 1922, in Monette to Clarence M. and Hettie Birmingham Reeves. He and his wife Suda owned and operated Reeves' Grocery Store for 29 years in Monette. Howard proudly served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the Monette American Legion. He was also a member of the Monette First Baptist Church and an avid golfer at the Big Lake Country Club. He will be remembered for his quick wit and his caring heart.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Suda Simpson Reeves; his daughter and her husband, Sue and Martin Steed; a sister, Estelle Holmes of Monette; a brother, John Paul Maynard (Linda) of Columbia, Mo., and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Hettie Reeves Maynard; his father, Clarence Reeves; two brothers, Siguard Maynard and Horce Bo Maynard.

A celebration of his life was 2 p.m. Monday, April 13, at Monette First Baptist Church with Rev. Rusty Bird and Mark Moore officiating. Burial followed at Monette Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Arrangements were entrusted to Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Monette First Baptist Church.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were Franklin Smithee, Buddy Duncan, Mark Moore, David Murrey, Jim Goodman and Lynn Burke. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Knapp, his nephews and Big Lake Country Club members and friends.
