D.C. Mangum Jr.

D.C. Mangum Jr., 55, of Rochester, Minnesota, died Monday, April 6, 2015, at his home in Rochester.

He was born in Blytheville on July 8, 1959, to Essie Jones Mangum and D.C. Mangum Sr. He was a graduate of Blytheville High School. His first job was at Hays Supermarket on 21st Street. After graduation from high school, he attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, where he received his bachelor's degree. He received his master's degree from the University of North Texas. He graduated from both universities with honors.

D.C. had a very illustrious career. He taught at Blytheville West Junior High; later, he was employed by the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, the Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek, Michigan, and was most recently employed as the manager and program director of the Mayo Clinic Office of Diversity. He served as administrator of the Fellowship Program with the Mayo Clinic.

D.C. served on the board of the Rochester Arts Center. He was a member of Rochester Diversity Council. He was an active member of Rochester Community Baptist Church.

His parents; his sister, Theresa Sharkey; and his brother, Larry Ware preceded him in death. He cared deeply for his family with a special love and concern for nieces and nephews.

He is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Jessie M. Dawkins of Chicago, Mrs. Patricia Ecton and Mrs. Anita (Gary) Hudson, all of Blytheville, and Mrs. Brenda (Malcolm) Williams of Olive Branch, Mississippi; and

Two brothers, Marcus (Clara) Haynes of Memphis and Gary Mangum of Blytheville.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Faith and Glory Christian Fellowship Church, 1510 Kari Lane, Blytheville. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at Faith and Glory Christian Fellowship Church, with the Rev. Poole officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens.
