Beth Elaine (Tyson) McEntire-Bess

Beth Elaine (Tyson) McEntire-Bess, 60, of Hardy, passed away Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at her home, surrounded by family and friends.

Beth was born on Nov. 25, 1954, in Walnut Ridge to Billy Joe and Armilda (Mayland) Tyson. She worked for many years with KSAR-Hometown Radio Stations in many capacities.

Beth was active in many civic organizations over the years and served in many leadership roles, including the Sharp County Jaycees/Jaycettes, the Spring River Area Business & Professional Women's Club (BPW), which she helped organize, Spring River Area Chamber of Commerce, Highland Schools PTA and the Sharp County Ladies Investment Club. She was an original member of the Rebel Booster Club and the Cherokee Village Lions Club. She helped to establish the Spring River Chamber's annual radio auction, assisted with the Black Rock Foothills Festival, Spring River Canoe Races, Sharp County Fair, Hardy Craft Fair, Ash Flat Eaglefest, Izard County Pioneer Day and the Lawrence County, Fulton County and Sharp County Fair beauty pageants. She was honored for her community leadership in the Spring River Area with the E. Wilson Green award. She also won public speaking competitions on the state and national level through the BPW association. Beth was also a member of the Ash Flat Church of Christ.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015 at the Ash Flat Church of Christ Family Life Center from 5-7 p.m.

Beth was preceded in death by her first husband, Greg McEntire; and her father, Billy Joe Tyson.

She is survived by her husband, Greg Bess, of the home;

Her sons, Jeff (Kara) McEntire of Highland and Joe Scott (Hanna) McEntire of Salem.

He step-daughters, Becca Bess (Tony Sutton) of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Leah (Ross) Myers of Ashburn, Virginia;

Her mother, Armilda Tyson of Powhatan;

Her siblings, Bill Lewis (Linda) Tyson of Powhatan, Johnny (Tammy) Tyson of Mountain Home, Mitzi (Steve) Kieffner of Paragould and Retha (Henry) Taffar of Ravenden; and

Her grandchildren, Kenzie and Mallory McEntire of Highland, Braylee Jo McEntire of Salem, Riley and Zachary Sutton of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Stella Myers of Ashburn, Virginia.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Ash Flat Church of Christ FLC. Burial will follow at the Agnos Cemetery. Pallbearers include Mark Kieffner, Kris Gill, Ashton Raney, Billy McEntire, Kolby King, Jonathan Harmon, Tony Sutton and Ross Myers.

Honorary pallbearers will include Kevin King, James Bragg, Jeff Bess, Johnny Tyson, Bill Lewis Tyson, Henry Taffar, Steve Kieffner, Billy Lynn Tyson, Steve McEntire, Clay McEntire, Ray McEntire, Jack McEntire, Jeff Jordan, Colby Jordan, Robert Cissell, Larry Smith, Stacey Horton, Jesse Morris, Dale Maddox, Mark Herring and Jack Hufmaster.

A scholarship fund is being established in Beth's name through Centennial Bank of Arkansas. The scholarship will be given annually to a civic-minded graduating senior.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider the scholarship fund or the Children's Home of Paragould.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wortham Funeral Home of Highland.
