Peggy White Carmean, 91, of Memphis, formerly of Blytheville, died Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Methodist Hospital in Germantown, Tennessee.

Peggy was born on May 9, 1923, in Steele, to Emma McArthur White and Ben W. White. She spent her early childhood in Steele before she moved to Blytheville. She attended Sudbury Elementary School and Blytheville Junior and Senior High. She was a majorette for Blytheville Senior High, as well as The University of Tennessee, where she attended her freshman year of college. She then transferred to the University of Arkansas, joined Chi Omega sorority, and majored in home economics. Peggy's major was perfect for her. Her joy in life was family, cooking and sewing. Peggy enjoyed teaching in Caruthersville and Blytheville. She was a wonderful seamstress, making clothes for herself, children and grandchildren.

She was feisty and full of personality. Many of her friends, family, doctors, nurses and business people, were recipients of her delicious baking. Rolls, cakes, pies, banana bread, candy and popcorn, just to name a few.

Peggy was a past member of Junior Auxiliary. She was also a longtime member of First United Methodist Church.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul William "Buddy" Carmean; her parents, Ben and Emma White; her beloved maternal grandparents, Maud and John McArthur; and her brothers, Ben Mac White and Johnny White.

She leaves her three daughters, Emmalyn Smith (Ron) of Herndon, Virginia, Corlea Burnett (Clark) of Memphis and Peggy Hancock (Jackie) of Kansas City, Missouri;

Five grandchildren, Leah Little (Paul), Katie Wells (Adam), Nate Smith (Kit Burke-Smith), Becca Graves and Jackson Hancock; and

Six great-grandchildren, Henry, Milo, Emma Kate, Maylee, Hattie and Fiona.

Funeral services for Peggy will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cobb Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation from 1-2 p.m. Burial will be private.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at The Pointe at Kirby Gate who joined the family in taking care of their mom. Memorials may be made to the Mississippi County Library and the First United Methodist Church in Blytheville, Arkansas.
