Earnest 'Tacker' Baker

Earnest "Tacker" Baker, 84, of Blytheville, formerly of Cherokee Village, passed from this life Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at his home.

Born in Oran, Missouri, to Earl and Ollie Carter Baker, Mr. Baker retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked as a letter carrier, in 1993. He was founder and former mission director of the Mission of Hope in Hardy. He was a member of Lone Oak Missionary Baptist Church and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, square dancing, fishing and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lester Baker; and two sisters, Lois Cerrato and Helen Glascoe.

Earnest is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Baker of the home;

A son, Randall Baker and wife, Jennifer of Madison, Alabama;

Two daughters, Kimberley Baker of Hot Springs and Karen Crawford of the home;

A brother, Chester Baker of Vilonia;

Two sisters, Earlene Ingram of Half Moon and Glenda Wilson of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and

Six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lone Oak Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
