Alvis "Buddy" Harris Jr., 72, died at his home on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014.

He was born in Blytheville on Jan. 23, 1942, to Alvis and June.

A member of BHS class of 1960, he graduated from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro in 1965 and served with the Arkansas Department of Human Services in Mississippi County for 38 years.

Buddy was a long-standing member and deacon at First Baptist Church in Blytheville. His service to his community benefitted many through his participation on the Mississippi County Disaster Relief Team and on the Mississippi County Election Commission. He was also a member of the Blytheville Lions Club, where he served as secretary/treasurer for many year. He also served on the Blytheville Planning Commission, and was a member of the executive board of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention. He was a dedicated follower of the Blytheville High School football program and never missed a home game since he graduated high school.

Buddy was preceded in death by his father, Alvis Harris Sr., and his mother, Mildred June White Harris.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda Gilmore Harris;

His sister, Becky DeNault and her husband, Ed, of Garfield, Arkansas;

His daughter, Holly Harris of Blytheville;

Two sons, Lance and wife Patty and their children Julia, Caleb, Hannah Beth, David, and John-Mark of Louisville, Kentucky; and Brett and wife Stacey and their children Kalyn, Madison, Brett Alan and Allison of Blytheville; and a great granddaughter, Emmalyn Dawn.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Cobb Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Justin King and Travis Turner officiating. The graveside service will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.

The family asks in lieu of flowers donations be sent to the Mississippi County Disaster Relief at P.O. Box 1104, Blytheville, AR, 72316-1104.
