Dorris Velma Dunkerson

Dorris Velma Dunkerson, 88, of Black Oak passed Monday, Nov. 24, 2014, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. She was born Oct. 19, 1926, in Jonesboro to the late Leonard and Jennie Kirksey and spent her entire life in the Black Oak and Caraway area. She was a farmer's wife and a member of the Caraway First Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and was a church worker for many years. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Kathy and John Starnes of Caraway and Larry and Dana Dunkerson of Black Oak; five grandchildren, Shawna Barber and husband Blake of Jonesboro, Tysha Starnes of Caraway, Kyla Futrell and husband Chris of Jonesboro, Daniel Dunkerson of Lake City and Sarah Dunkerson of Black Oak; two great-grandchildren, Wes Thompkins of Caraway and Evie Futrell of Jonesboro; two brothers and their wives, Delmer and Betty Kirksey of St. Joseph, Mo., and Jerrell and Virginia Kirksey of Houston, Texas, and numerous other family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Noble C. Dunkerson; grandson, Marshall Dunkerson; six brothers and sisters.

The family will received friends from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Caraway First Baptist Church.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday at Caraway First Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Stevens officiating. Interment followed in Monette Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were John McCord, Dane McCord, Kris Kelton, Kurt Vaughn, Kyle Vaughn and Clayton Miller. Honorary pallbearers were the men of Caraway First Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Caraway building fund or Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.
