Ione Oakes Gore

Ione Oakes Gore, 98, of Pensacola, Florida, and Blytheville, passed away from this life on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014.

Born in Holcomb, Missouri, to H.B. and Rosa Oakes, the family moved to Blytheville in 1919 where Ione lived most of her life. In 1994, she moved to Pensacola to live with her daughter, Donna Sue.

Ione was a beautician/cosmetologist for 60 years, and her customers were many of her good friends. She was a lifelong member of United Methodist Church, where as an adult, she enjoyed working with youth, United Methodist Women, Sunday school, Bible studies, sewing groups and more.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred L. Gore; a sister, Elsie O. Keener; a special cousin, Marie Smothermon; and a grandson, Tyler Gore.

She is survived by her son, Fred Gore Jr.;

A daughter, Donna Sue Gore;

Her nephews, George O. Ropp (Anna) and Paul Ropp;

Her granddaughters, Marion Ellen Albrektsen and Laura Ann Gore;

Her great-grandsons, Jonathon Albrektsen and Devon Gore; and

Many other loving relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cobb Funeral Home Reception Home. The family will receive visitors from 10:30-11 a.m. Saturday at the Reception Home. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ione's name may be made to First United Methodist Church in Blytheville or to the music program or living trust at First United Methodist Church in Pensacola.
