Glen Henry Gothard, 82, of Sevierville, Tenn., passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at LeConte Medical Center in Sevierville.

Born Dec. 7, 1931, in Kennett, Glen was the eldest son of the late Willis P. Gothard and Lora Sanders Gothard Cummings. Glen was a member of the 1950 Kennett High School graduating class and maintained lifelong friendships with many of his classmates. Following graduation, along with a few friends, he moved to Flint, Mich., and found employment at the AC Spark Plug Plant. Not long after this, Glen was drafted and served in the Air Force until being honorably discharged on April 9, 1952. He then returned to Flint and was employed as a clerk and later office manager in the Construction Department of Buick Motor Company, from which he retired after 32 years of service. Glen also owned and operated the Gothard Tax Service in Mount Morris, Mich., from 1960 until 2006. Glen moved to Bonita Springs, Fla., in 1986, where he lived for 20 years before moving to Sevierville to be near his son and family. Glen professed Christ as Savior in 1976 and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, Glen was preceded in death by his youngest son, David Brian Gothard, and his step-father, Clifford O. Cummings.

Survivors include Janet Grammatico Gothard Mathenia, the mother of his two children;

His eldest son, Glen Alan Gothard and wife Sue Hall Gothard of Sevierville, Tenn.;

Two brothers, Gary Gothard and wife Kay Kelly Gothard of Johnson City, Tenn., and Tom Gothard and wife Martha Taylor Gothard of Armorel;

Four grandchildren, Carrie Gothard Bivens and husband Marvin of Surprise, Ariz., Tony Gothard and wife Misty of Denver, Colo., Ashley Gothard Salata and husband John of Knoxville, Tenn., and Leah Hall Bryant and husband David of Wyoming, Mich;

Nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Glen is also survived by two very special neighbors, Tommy and Kay Baker of Sevierville, along with numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong friends in Missouri, Michigan, Florida and Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the church or charitable organization of your choosing.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Final disposition will be private.
