Jerry Ray Grant

Monette -- Jerry Ray Grant, 74, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014 at his home. He was born Feb. 10, 1940, in Jonesboro to the late Roy and Carrie Grant. He was a member of the American Legion for many years and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed watching football and NASCAR as well as going fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Marie Grant of the home; sons, Sam Grant and wife Becky and Johnny Cockrell and wife Angelia, all of Aberdeen, Miss.; daughters, Diana Sherman of Jonesboro and Frankie Harris of Monette; a brother, Roy Grant Jr. and wife 23 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Mr. Grant was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Jackie Joe Cockrell and Jerry Eugene Cockrell; one sister, Betty Nell; and two brothers, Troy Grant and Billy Joe Grant.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday July 28, at the chapel of Gregg Funeral Home in Monette with Rev. Jerry Reed officiating. Interment followed in Monette Memorial Cemetery.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were Roxanne Hogue, Nicole Bouse, Melinda Pearce, Samantha Pierce, Jamie Lynn Lisk and Amanda Wilson and as honorary pallbearers his grandsons.
