Police response to situation criticized

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

To the editor:

I don't understand my town. Today, my grandfather got shot with a BB gun. I called the police. When they came, we told them the problem; mind you, he got a big bruise on his leg.

The police weren't going to do a report until I called the chief. Apparently, he did not care; I called twice. So when they were leaving, my grandfather wanted me to catch the bank to go get him some witch hazel and green alcohol. So as I was leaving, I got to the corner of Sarah Street, and the police is stopped in the middle of the street, so she beckoned for me to come out. Then she stops me and tell me my light is out, which was a lie. She never looked in the truck; she walked back and came back with a ticket for no seat belt four times and careless driving.

I have served in the military for some years, and I ain't never seen no mess like this in my life. They have officers that have not been trained, overweight officers that need to retire. I go to the chief, and he said, what you want me to do? Well today, let me tell you chief, QUIT. You serve no purpose to your community. You can't do your job. You don't answer calls like you're supposed to. And while on your watch, there have been a lot of police brutality going on, not counting the deaths behind the police shootings.

I am fed up with all of it. This is one of the worst cities in America where police get away with murder and black-on-black crime is a way of living. It's time for a change.
