Teenage punks need to be taught a lesson

To the editor:

This past weekend, my granddaughter was married. It was a really beautiful event and I must say she married a very fine young man. They make a great couple.

However, the night before the wedding, my daughter (the mother of the bride) had a house full of family and guests. Everything was going fine until some teenage punks decided they would destroy it by throwing a bottle through the front window of the house. These teenage thugs then started running down the street; however, little did they know, they wouldn't get far when they were overtaken by three men who were inside the house at the time.

These teenage thugs were held until the local PD showed up. A statement of course was written out by my son-in-law, the owner of the home and father of the bride. Then, of course, the statement to him by one of the officers, "There is nothing we can do because they are juveniles." All of this happened close to 10 p.m.

A comment was made some time ago to me that went something like this, "These times, they are a'changing." They are "changing" because the parents are allowing them to change.

Speaking of "time," there was, in fact, "a time" when if you were caught out after 9 p.m., you would have had a trip to the woodshed, and I don't mean to put gas in the lawn mower! If you destroyed someone's property, you first made a trip to the woodshed, then a trip to jail where you could think about what you did. If you talked back to any adult, much less your parents, the woodshed was just the start of your education.

We need to return once again to those times and perhaps these teenage thugs would get the message! No, I am not advocating child abuse; however, I am advocating a swift swat in the lower posterior of teenage thugs who continue to misbehave.
