Marian McDonald Barton

Mrs. Marian McDonald Barton, 85, of Tunica, Miss., passed away Monday, May 5, 2014.

Mrs. Barton was born to the late Erma and Hiram McDonald Nov. 1, 1928, in Calhoun County, Miss. She graduated from Burdette High School in 1946 and went on to earn her degree in nursing from the Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis in 1951. She married the late George Clay Barton in 1954. Mrs. Barton was a registered nurse until she retired in 1995.

Mrs. Barton was a member of the Church of the Epiphany in Tunica. She enjoyed traveling and was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was also an animal lover and avid supporter of the Tunica Humane Society.

Mrs. Barton was preceded in death by her daughter, Laura Barton Small.

She is survived by her son, Clay Rogers (and Paula) Barton of Campo, Calif.;

Her grandson, Matthew Carlton (and Brittney) Legg of Birmingham, Ala.;

Four sisters, Jimmie Cater of Fallbrook, Calif., Bobbe Tomlinson of Blytheville, Polly Pruitt of West Memphis and Johnnie Taylor of Blytheville;

One brother, Bill McDonald of Little Rock; and

She also leaves behind a caregiver and close family friend, Sherry Melton, as well as goddaughters Samantha and Betsy Melton.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be made to the Tunica Humane Society.

Visitation and funeral services were held Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the Church of the Epiphany in Tunica. Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery.
