Mr. Joe Franklin Cashion, 80, of Jonesboro, former longtime Leachville resident, passed from this life Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at the UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock. The son of the late Elisha Lee and Clara Mae Lawrence Cashion, he had lived most of his life in Leachville.

He served a combined 32 years in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve and had worked as a depot agent for the Frisco Railroad before he and his wife opened State Farm Insurance Agencies in Leachville and Osceola. He served two terms as a Leachville city councilman and fourteen years as the mayor of Leachville. He also served on the Leachville Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. He had been a Jonesboro resident since 1994 and was a member of the Nettleton Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Cashion.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Evelyn Goodwin Cashion of Jonesboro;

A son, Jody Cashion of Jonesboro;

Two daughters, Danita Johnson and her husband, Larry, of Walls, Miss., and Melissa West of Camden;

Joe also leaves his grandchildren, Kelli and Seth Waggonner of Springhill, La., and Jared Hawkins of Taylor, Ark.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with Tim Bassing and Jimmy Young officiating. Burial will follow in Leachville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until service time. Guests may register at www.HowardFuneralService.com
