Red Paper Poppy Project a success

Friday, December 6, 2013

To the editor:

The American Legion Auxiliary Dud Cason Unit 24 would like to thank all those that donated to the Red Paper Poppy project.

This hand-crafted poppy was presented to the American public after World War I, when concerned veterans and citizens knew that disabled veterans and their families needed assistance.

The poppy is a thank-you from the disabled veterans for the donations given to them. The poppy is made by the veterans in rehabilitation hospitals.

The Auxiliary would like to thank all our generous citizens who donated to our poppy program. Special thanks to the Senior Citizens Center for their donations and their honoring the veterans and the donations given by the citizens at this special veterans day event. Thanks to the Dixie Pig and the Legion for letting us place our poppies in their establishments.

The money collected is given to local veteran's hospitals, child welfare and rehab. Thanks again for your donations. Have a Merry Christmas.

Margie Rhodes
Poppy Chairman, Auxiliary Unit 24
