Gosnell mosquito control falling short

Wednesday, September 18, 2013

To the editor:

This is the time of year when temperatures at night are cooler and daytime conditions are pleasant, a wonderful time for evenings spent on the porch. That will be hard to do this year with mosquitos swarming all around us.

I live on the west end of Cottonwood, where there is very little mature standing water except ditches, which are dry, but the problem still exists.

This year, Gosnell city officials decided to handle the problem through their own resources. Our yearly fee is $4 per month, which I feel is reasonable IF effective. The first Gosnell home football game was Thursday, Sept. 12. The mosquitos practically carried people away. The fans spent more time swatting mosquitos than watching the game.

Give mosquito control back to the professional companies, to include aerial applications when needed.
