James W. "Jimmy" Fincher

James W. "Jimmy" Fincher, 75, of Prescott passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, in Little Rock. He was born in Hope on Nov. 18, 1937, to William "Bill" and Mary Arnett Fincher. Jimmy attended schools at Mobile, Ala., Brownwood, Texas, and Salinas, Calif., while his daddy was serving in the armed forces during World War II. He continued his education at Rocky Mound and Hope, graduating in 1956. He received his bachelor's degree from Southern State College in Magnolia.

He went to work for Arkla Gas in 1962, working at Magnolia and Gurdon until 1970. He then joined Prescott and Northwestern Railroad as accountant and assistant resident manager and moved to resident manager in 1983 until his retirement in 1996. His most honored area of service was his serving as deacon of Prescott First Baptist Church. This service was serious and meaningful to Jimmy.

Jimmy's retirement years were very happy years for him. He filled everyday working with the cows, hunting or fishing, helping a friend, going somewhere, doing something with his children, taking care of his seven precious grandchildren, going to church, or just helping people, even those he never knew their names. Hunting and fishing was one of his greatest passions, but he not only enjoyed the sports himself, but loved to teach young boys and girls the art of the sports. Jimmy participated in several research procedures and treatments knowing it would not help him, but would probably help others.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Jimmy was the beloved husband of, and survived by, Wanda Whitney Fincher who keenly loved this most loveable man and cherished warm memories of 53 years together. He is also survived by two adorable and precious daughters, Dee Godwin and husband Mike of Hope and Jo Beth Glass and husband Wayne of Prescott, his special pride, his son, Kenny Fincher and wife Mary Beth of Hope, seven loving grandchildren, Steven Godwin, Jami Godwin and husband Drake of Hope, Shelly Glass and Dusty Glass of Prescott, Kaylee Fincher, Keaton Fincher and Landon Cross of Hope, one sister, Mary Jo Fincher Curtis of Little Rock, three nieces, a nephew, numerous cousins, great nephews and great nieces, his sister-in-law, Maxine Whitney Stegall and husband Earl of Jackson, Miss., and a host of friends.
