Ruth Walker Dapp

Mrs. Ruth Walker Dapp, 87, of Jonesboro, died Thursday, July 11, 2013, at the Ridgecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jonesboro.

Born in Detroit, Ruth lived in Lombard, Ill., where she graduated high school and lived with her husband and family in Aurora, Ill., before moving to Blytheville in 1968. She lived in Long Island, N.Y., and Memphis before moving to Jonesboro in 1996.

Ruth worked for the Department of Navy in Alameda, Calif., during WWII, as a legal secretary in Aurora and as a supervisor for the Internal Revenue Service on Long Island, N.Y. She was a member of the New England Congregational Church in Aurora and was a long time volunteer for the annual Memphis International Cultural Wonders Series.

Ruth was an avid golfer, a member of NEA Baptist Medical Center Auxiliary and enjoyed her pet dogs, gardening and bird watching. She was preceded in death by her husband, George P. Dapp Sr.; parents, James L. and Mary Frances Scholler Walker; a sister Geri Thomas; a brother Robert Walker; great-granddaughter Evie Blain; and a daughter-in-law. Lorie Dapp.

Survivors include two sons, Steven T. (and Maryann) Dapp Sr. and George Peter Dapp Jr., all of Jonesboro;

One daughter, Diane D. (and Rick) Carter of Brookland;

One sister, Marye Hicken of Jonesboro;

Four grandchildren, Maureen (and Allen) Vanderford and Lauren (and Forest) Blain, all of Jonesboro, and Heather (and Reuben) Cabrara and Steven Dapp Jr. all of Anchorage, Alaska;

Six great-grandchildren, John, Victoria, Joseph III, and Nathan Vanderford, Samantha Blain and Gabriel Cabrara; and

Three nephews, Ed Hicken of Wisconsin, George Hollen of Colorado and David Hollen of Illinois.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Rutherford Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Blackwood officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. today, at Emerson Funeral Home.
