Show compassion to family in need

Friday, February 22, 2013

To the editor:

During these times when the world is experiencing natural disasters and strained economies with very big rates of unemployment, those of us who have faith and profess God's name and who hold out to be his are often presented with "The Test" of proving with our actions if we have the heart and mind of the Lord.

Latasha Fields, a lifelong resident of this community, passed away, and even though she had insurance, because of a pre-existing condition, the policy she had was void, leaving her mother, Delores Fields, who is on a fixed and limited income with the burden of funeral expenses so that Tasha can be laid to rest. Even though I don't know this family personally my heart goes out to the mother especially who cannot properly grieve her loss because she has to figure out how she is going to get her child buried.

When I heard about her dilemma, I reasoned in my mind that with all the sanctuaries in this community that open their doors in the name of Jesus, that by the help of those who love the Lord, we can ease this burden for a grieving mother. God not only expects, but commands that as the body of Christ we be of one mind and have compassion for one another not rendering evil for evil or railing for railing, but blessing knowing that charity covers the multitude of sin, it would be to our benefit to show charity not knowing what tribulations our own future holds or when we may need the help of others, but especially so because of what Christ did for us on Calvary.

There will be some who will ponder and reflect on what "coulda" or "shoulda" been done to avoid this situation, but I say to you, "suppose Christ had reflected on our disobedience which resulted in our sin nature and decided not to make the "ultimate sacrifice" which we ourselves could not pay?" For the "naysayers" or those who have negative comments, I caution you against judging because when you judge others you also judge yourself (Matt 7:1-3).

With this having been said, I ask that you open your hearts and show some compassion to a family who is in need. This plea goes out to anyone who is willing to donate to this cause. Donations may be made either to Wilson Funeral Home or you may contact Sandra Smith at 870-278-6990. What we do to or for the least of our heavenly father's children, we do it also into Him (Matt 25:31-40). Together, the "crumbs" (small donations by many) from the tables in this community could sustain the needs of this family.

Thanking you in advance.
