Mr. Lawrence Dwayne Whitley, 55, departed this life Tuesday,

Nov. 27, 2012. He was born April, 18, 1957, in Black Oak, Ark., the son of Lawrence Bishop Whitley and Leona Hill Whitley. Wayne was a farmer and co-owner of the Black Oak Gin. His family was chosen as the 2012 Craighead County Farm Family of the year. He was a member of the Black Oak Church of Christ, where he was very active in the works of the church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attending the various sporting events with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy Whitley of the home; his mother, Leona Whitley of Black Oak; four children, Kristy Liles and husband Aaron of Black Oak, Bishop Whitley and wife Brooke of Black Oak, Kendra Hawkins and husband Blake of Monette, and Jodiee Clay of the home; three sisters, Peggy Holland and husband George Edd of Monette, Deb Dunigan and husband Eddie of Black Oak, and Pat Whitley of Monette; six grandchildren, Lexa Whitley, Cooper Liles, Jax Whitley, Whitley Hawkins, Reece Liles and Gatlyn Hawkins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Bishop Whitley; a sister, Wyvonne Qualls; a granddaughter, Kynzee Reece Liles, and two nephews, Kim Qualls and Kevin James.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at the

Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with Mr. Tim Bassing and Mr. Eddie Dunigan officiating. Interment was in Monette Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was held at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Pallbearers were Tommy Dunigan, Johnny Dunigan, Justin Gathright, Brett Hickman, Jason Brewer, Chad Sneed, Chris Ervin, Jordan Wood, Kris James, Kirk Qualls, Corey Couch, Casey Couch and Justin Patterson. Honorary pallbearers were board members of the Black Oak Gin.

Those wishing to make memorials are asked to consider the Black Oak Church of Christ or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
