Maurice Holmes

Maurice Holmes, 81, passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Flo

and Phil Jones Hospice House.

He was born on Nov. 30, 1930, at Delfore to the late Allie and Maudie McPherson Holmes. Mr. Holmes started working for cotton gins when he was

fourteen years old and retired from the Monette Co-op Gin as a foreman and ginner in 2006 after 45 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monette a member of the Monette Senior Citizens Center, a volunteer for

the NEA area on aging and an honorary member of the Arkansas Sheriffs Youth Ranch. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be remembered for his love of hunting, fishing and collecting arrow heads.

He is survived by his wife, Opal Estelle Holmes; two daughters and their husbands, Vicki and Jerry Hanna of Monette and Maurcia "Marti" and Rodney

Robertson of Leachville; three grandchildren, Shawn Nance and wife Heather of Monette, Brannah Barrett of Jonesboro and Forrest Robertson of Leachville; two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Wriley Nance of Monette.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, A.J. "Buddy" Holmes and Charles Mack Holmes as well as three sisters Jewel Lee Holmes, Maura Brinkley and Martha Thomas.

A celebration of his life was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Monette First Baptist Church with Rev. Rusty Bird and Bro William Piercy officiating. Interment followed at Monette Memorial Cemetery under the

direction of Gregg Funeral Home in Monette.

Visitation was from, from 6-8 p.m., Saturday evening at the Gregg Funeral Home in Monette.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were Dennis Cobb, Kenny Jackson, Bob Blankenship, Barry Wells, Gordon Miller and Ted Finley. Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Wells and members and former members of the Monette Senior

Life Center.
