Newell G. Jerome Jr.

Mr. Newell G. Jerome Jr., 60, of Blytheville, passed from this life Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at his residence.

Born in Blytheville to Dr. Newell G. Sr. and Margaret Acton Jerome, he attended Blytheville Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1970. While in school he was a member of the Chickasaw basketball team, was active in Student Council and many other clubs.

Newell attended the University of Mississippi, graduating with a degree in Urban Planning. He spent most of his adult life in the public sector, working for the Mississippi County Judge's Department and in the Blytheville School District. He enjoyed playing chess, watching sports, on line friends and family holidays. He was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church in Blytheville and loved spending time at the Mississippi County Library and the family feels that he would have wanted any memorials to be given to the library.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Newell is survived by his daughter and two granddaughters;

Two brothers, Vaughn Jerome and wife, Marrietta, and Stewart Jerome, all of Blytheville;

Four nieces and nephews and seven great-nieces and nephews; and

Many lifelong friends in the Blytheville area.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Elmwood Cemetery with Dr. Robin Moore officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at Cobb Funeral Home. An online register may be signed at cobbfuneralhome.com
