Alice Sue Jorn

Mrs. Alice Sue Jorn, 71, of Manila, passed from this life, Sunday Aug. 5, 2012, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. Born in Wilson, she was the daughter of the late Isaac Newton and Verna Flemming Alexander. A graduate of Manila High School, she later received a Bachelor of Science degree in English from Arkansas State University. She was a retired school teacher and member of the Arkansas Teachers Association. She taught in the West Helena School District for many years and returned to Manila in 2002 where she was a member of the First Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard "Butch" Simpson; a grandson, Richard Simpson III; and a brother, Isaac Newton Alexander Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Maurice "Gene" Jorn of the home;

Five sons, Dr. Ted Simpson of Los Angeles, Matthew Jorn of St. Charles, Mo., Richard Jorn of Effingham, Ill., Philip Jorn of Kirksville, Mo., and A. J. Jorn of Blytheville;

Two daughters, Beth Tipton of Marshelltown, Iowa, and Rebecca Veach of West Plains, Mo.;

One sister, Julia Hern of Heber Springs;

One sister-in-law, Mattie Douglas of Manila; and

Nineteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with the Rev. Joey Smithson officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery.
