Bernice James

Mrs. Mildred Bernice Boyd James was the last of 13 children, born Oct. 6, 1927, in Vandooser, Mo., to Richard and Lena Boyd. On March 17, 1946, she married the love of her life, Carlton Monroe James, in Blytheville. They had their daughter, Alice Marie James, Feb. 24, 1948. In 1951 they moved to California, eventually making Hanford their home. Bernice worked in numerous clerical positions in Hanford, including Sacred Heart Hospital, JCPenney and Mid Valley Grain.

She was preceded in death by their son, David Wayne James. Mr. James, more commonly known as Dick, or Jim, preceded Bernice in death March 26, 2007. Bernice passed Friday, July 20, 2012, after kidney failure.

She leaves her sister, Juanita Holmes of Blytheville;

Her daughter, Alice Marie Watson and her husband, John, of Armona, Calif.;

Her grandson, Jim Watson and his wife, Carolyn, of Clovis, Calif.;

Her great-grandsons, Greg and Steve Jones; and

Her great-great grandson Devon Jones of Hanford.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Hacienda Nursing Home for their care and assistance in Bernice's final years.

A graveside service will be held at 10 am. Thursday at Hanford Cemetery, 10500 10th Avenue, Hanford, Calif., 93230 -- 559-584-3937.
