Velma Alburta Crews

Velma Alburta Crews, 92, of Caraway, widow of Mr. Luther "Luke" Crews, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at the Lakeside Nursing Center in Lake City. Born in Keiser, she was the daughter of the late William and Bessie Cater Dewey and had been a longtime Caraway resident. She was retired from American Greetings in Osceola and she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Caraway.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William "Man" Grable and Donald Grable.

She is survived by five sons, Bennie Crews of Jonesboro, Lynn Crews of Caraway, Wayne Crews of West Helena, Don Crews of Caraway, and Gary Crews of Harrisburg; three daughters, JoAnn Jeffers of Monette, Barbara Roberts of Elaine, and Deborah Ward of Caraway; five sisters, Elwanda McMullin, Norma DeSpain, Thelma Wilson, Charlene Johnson and Shelby Norman. She also leaves 23 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the First Baptist Church in Caraway with Rev. Rick Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in the Manila Cemetery under the direction of Howard Funeral Service.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Jeffrey Crews, Brian Crews, Chris Crews, Timothy Crews, Richard Roberts and Michael Crews. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Crews, Donald Roberts, Rick Toombs, Johnny Crews, David Jeffers, Keith Jeffers, Karry Witt, Jimmy Roberts and Greg Roberts.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Caraway.
