Mrs. Seminole Avon Gordon, 91, passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at Great Rivers Medical Center in Blytheville. Known as Semmie by all who loved her, she was born June 17, 1920, in Zepher Hills, Fla., to Stephen LaFayette and Cora Myrtle Austin. On Aug. 6, 1953, she married James Samuel (Sam) Gordon.

Semmie held many jobs in her life, including working at the Willow Run Bomber Plant in Ypsilanti, Mich., during World War II, as a riveter on the B-29 bombers. After living in Chicago for many years, she and Sam moved to Gosnell in 1969 in order to care for her ailing in-laws. However, most of her life was spent in the Blytheville area. For many years, she worked at the Columbia Ribbon and Carbon Company.

Semmie was a faithful wife and devoted mother. Some of her favorite memories were of a home filled with teenage boys and girls, all of whom she considered as her own. She loved having them around where she could provide them with an unlimited supply of Rice Krispie treats.

She is survived by her only son, Tiger, who resides with his wife, Becky, in Fayette, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers and five sisters.

Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. Sunday. A celebration of her life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday with Billy Holifield officiating. Both will be held at Cobb Funeral Home in Blytheville with interment at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, individuals may make memorial contributions to the charity of their choice in Semmie's name. An online register may be signed at cobbfuneralhome.com
