Austin (A.G.) Green Moody

Mr. Austin (A.G.) Green Moody of Hickory, N.C., went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, after battling a rare illness known as "Good Pasture" Syndrome. Austin was born in Dell May 13, 1937.

Prior to moving to Hickory and joining First Baptist Church, Austin was a member of, and servant in, First Baptist Church in Asheville, N.C., and Providence Baptist Church in Charlotte, N.C.

Austin, who was 74 years young, grew up in Dell, AR. He honorably served his country as a Staff Sargent in the United States Air Force from 1955 through 1959. Upon leaving the Air Force, Austin entered Arkansas State University and graduated in 1963 with a B.S. degree in Chemistry and Mathematics. Austin worked in the flexible packaging and adhesive tape industries until his retirement from Shurtape Technologies, Inc. of Hickory, NC in 2003.

Austin has served as a Baptist Church Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Deacon Chairman and Finance Chairman. His passion was serving with the N.C. Baptist Men Disaster Relief organization since retiring in 2003. He also was a faithful volunteer each year for Samaritan's Purse's Annual Shoe Box drive.

Austin enjoyed serving others in Jesus' name, bible study, church mission work, Amateur (HAM) Radio and being with his family, most especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Marion Moody, and his mother Arietta Glover Moody; his sister Gladys Moody Keaner; his sister Marcella Moody Shelly; and his brother Larry Gene Moody, all of Dell.

He is survived by his brother Luther (L.M.) Marion Moody and wife, Bea, of Jackson, Tenn.;

His sister Virena Moody Cordell of Virginia Beach, Va.;

His loving wife of over 49 years, Sandra Lutes Moody;

Two sons, Dennis A. Moody and wife, Catherine, of Mooresville, N.C. and Michael L. Moody and wife, Janet, of Pittsboro, N.C.;

His daughter Cynthia (Cindy) Moody Snider and husband, Andrew, of St. Peters, Mo.; and

His beloved grandchildren, Austin L. Moody, Daniel P. Moody, David A. Snider, Ryan A. Moody, Sarah E. Moody, Jeremiah Z. Snider, Natalie J. Snider and Logan S. Moody.

A "Celebration of Life" Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Hickory, N.C., with the Rev. Pat Pearce and the Rev. Phillip Reynolds officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the church.
