Hugh Joseph 'Joey' Brooks

Mr. Hugh Joseph "Joey" Brooks, 54 of Manila, passed from this life Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at his home. Born at Blytheville, he was the son of the late Cohen and Margaret Burke Brooks and was a lifelong Manila resident.

He was a 1975 graduate of Manila High School and served in the U. S. Navy. Joey was a former employee of the Manila Public Schools and a member of the Milligan Ridge Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer and was a two-time Big Lake Country Club Champion.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandparents, L. A. and Cosie Brown; and a daughter, Tina Price.

He leaves his wife, Mary Hale Brooks of the home;

Four sisters, Donna Walls, Sonja McCormick, Suzanne Smith and Holly Jackson, all of Manila;

One grandson, Alex Britt of Manila;

A special niece, Paige Wagner of Manila; and

A special nephew, Chris Stuck of Leachville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with the Rev. Ray Dill officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery.
