Shopping locally is good for the community

To the editor:

I would like to bring to attention on how important it is for our community that we all shop in Blytheville.

If you haven't shopped downtown in a while, you're in for a treat! The Christmas lights are up and turned on, which helps put a festive feeling in the air and the stores on Main Street are staying open later on Thursdays.

You can shop the whole day in our community and find all your needs from banking, carpet, clothing, hardware, holiday cards, home furnishings, hunting supplies, jewelry, school supplies, shoes, tools for the home or yard, café dining, cakes, cookies and more!

One thing to notice in the local stores of our community is the familiar smiling faces. The merchants and employees are from our community and share a vested interest for our community.

Shopping in Blytheville helps the community out as a whole by creating jobs and a flow of spending money. We owe it to our family members and friends that work in town to shop Blytheville as this creates job security for them. Bring a friend and make a day of it!

I remember my children when they got their first job here in the community -- they were so excited, and most of all, making their own money!

Let's take care of the downtown merchants as well as our community by shopping in Blytheville. The local merchants were quick to help out the community this past year on several fundraisers for some families that were faced with tragedies.

Shopping Blytheville is one sure way to show our appreciation for their dedication to our community.
