Merlene Leota Stokes

Mrs. Merlene Leota Stokes, 77, of Etowah, died of cancer Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. Born Sept. 11, 1934, in Bradford, she was a homemaker and a member of the Etowah Pentecostal Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merl Stokes; her parents, Amos Weathers and Bertha Kemp; and one grandchild.

Mrs. Stokes leaves one daughter, Marsha Mitchell of Trumann;

One son, Wayne Stokes of Etowah;

One sister, Linda Freeman of Lepanto;

Five brothers, the Rev. Jerry Weathers of Keiser, Merle Weathers and Carlin Weathers of Etowah, Larry Weathers of Monette and Donald Weathers of Eudora; and

Two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at the Etowah Pentecostal church of God. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Huey Meherg, will begin at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Garden Point Cemetery in Etowah.
