Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Bruce Oliver Harlan Sr., 58, of Blytheville, passed from this life Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at The Regional Medical Center in Memphis.

Born in St. Louis to Leland Hunt Jr. and Eileen Jeffers Harlan, Bruce was a graduate of Jonesboro High School, Arkansas State University Class of 1975 and was also a graduate of the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville, Class of 1978. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Blytheville.

He was Deputy Prosecutor for 2nd Judicial District for the past 32 years, former attorney for the Office of Child Support Enforcement for over 25 years, served on the Legal Aid Board and the Arkansas Crime Lab Board.

He enjoyed volunteering as coach and judge for the Odyssey of the Mind Program for the Blytheville School System, where he earned the Odyssey of the Mind OMER Award in 2007 and served on the Adult Advisory Council, Diocese of Little Rock.

Bruce was very active in his community and loved helping others, earning him Attorney of the Year Pro Bono, several times. Bruce was preceded in death by his mother.

He leaves his wife, Jeanne Harlan, of the home;

His father, Leland Hunt Harlan Jr. of Jonesboro;

Six children, Katie Eileen Fisher and her husband, Jacob, of Fayetteville, Leland Hunt Harlan IV and Julie of Blytheville, Samuel Garrett Harlan of Jonesboro, Douglas Bryan Harlan of Fayetteville, Kelsey Jo Harlan of Columbia, Mo., and Bruce O. Harlan Jr. of Blytheville;

A grandchild, Kingston Harlan;

A brother, Leland Hunt "Smiley" Harlan III of Jonesboro;

A sister, Janice Harlan Massey and her husband, Dean, of Jonesboro; and

Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be at noon Monday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Blytheville, Father Tom Marks officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Jonesboro at 4 p.m. Monday. Visitation will befrom 3-4:30 p.m. Sunday, with the Rosary commencing at 4:30 p.m .at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
