Douglas Eugene 'Jack' Walker

Douglas Eugene "Jack" Walker, 87, passed away Sept. 21, 2011, in Columbus, Miss. The son of the late James Arthur and Dora Mae Kent Walker, Jack was born May 28, 1924, in Meridian, Miss. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manila.

He served his country during World War II when he flew over 30 missions as a gunner in the United States Army Air Force while stationed in Seething, England, with the 448th Bomb Group. He was retired from the United States Postal Service and was a past master and 32 Degree Mason of the Masonic Lodge in Manila. He was also a long-time member of the Cattlemen's Association.

Jack was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, James Walker, Elizabeth Rice, Robert Walker, Martin Walker, Harold Walker, David Walker, Jean Davis and Betty Rouse.

Mr. Walker leaves his wife, Betty Walker of Manila;

Two daughters, Junie (and Woody) Matthews and Sandy (and Charlie) Brown;

His sister, Virginai (and John) Harmon of Fort Smith;

Four grandchildren, Deena McIntyre, Drew (and Ashley) Matthews, and Libby Matthews, all of Columbus, Miss. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia

Harmon (John) of Fort Smith; and

Numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 209 S. Baltimore St., Manila, AR 72442 or Community United Methodist Church, 3349 West County Road 346, Manila, AR 72442.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Manila at 2 p.m. Saturday.
