Negative talk part of city's problems

To the editor:

As you know, there have been some issues going on in our city. Issues such as murder, lack of jobs, drugs, etc.

I am writing this letter out of concern for our great city. Yes, I did say GREAT! I think we have sat aside too long waiting for something better to happen and not wanting to make the effort to cause things to change for the better. We have for too long been a part of the problem and not the solution. How you might ask? Well, sitting back doing nothing, I say is part of the problem. Using negative words to talk about this city is adding to the problem.

The Bible says that death and life are in the power of the tongue and that you (we) shall eat the fruit of it. When negative words are spoken or released about a person, place or thing, it begins to become whatever is said about it, especially when there is no one to refute it. Everywhere you turn, the majority of the citizens of Blytheville have nothing good to say about it. That is really a shame. I wouldn't live any place that I didn't believe in. Do we have negative things going on? YES! But there are some positive things about Blytheville as well.

As a matter of fact, there are some GREAT things about this city. What? You may ask. The fact that you and I live here is what makes it great. I believe once we begin to exalt the positive things or even speak what we desire to see here will cause a change for the better. The scripture also says to call those things that be not as though they were. Remember when our parents use to tell us: "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all." Let's go back to doing just that.

I decided a long time ago that I would no longer allow my words to be used to speak ill things of my city, especially since it has been such a blessing to me. I choose to see the good no matter what. I will not be a part of the problem but a part of the solution. I am asking you as a citizen of Blytheville to join me in praying for our city and our fellow citizens. If you feel like you can't pray, then at least decide that you will no longer speak negatively where the city is concerned.

I have started a prayer group focused solely on praying for Blytheville and the surrounding areas. If you would like to join me, please contact me at 870-740-4949 (cell) or 870-763-9999 (work). I have a specific prayer that we all are praying daily. It only takes a few minutes of your time to recite this prayer. If you would like a copy, please stop by Shear Attractions Salon, 825 E. Main Suite F (next door to Staffmark) and pick up a copy.
